The SOMA Breath Energized Meditation Routine

The SOMA Energized Meditation Routine is a little over a 1-hour long workshop based on rhythmic breathing and great, uplifting, music. It is designed to help participants become very efficient at using oxygen, and to build a tolerance to carbon dioxide.  Energized Meditation helps people to slow down their breathing to less than 10 breaths per minute, and to encourage people to breathe through their nose more. The Energized Meditation Routine is designed to release tension from the body, boost your mood, and be a super-effective breathwork meditation.

Anyone can take part in the Energized Meditation Routine - if you can breathe, you can do it!

The Energized Meditation Routine includes the following elements:

  • Body activation warm-up (whole brain activation/light exercise).

  • AUM chanting

  • Releasing tension in the face

  • Breath work

  • Final Meditation

Things to bring but not necessary: eye mask, pillow, blanket, journal, dress in something comfortable (will be the initial movement)

Contraindications

Slow, rhythmic breathing techniques are generally safe for most people.

Breath holds should NOT be practiced in any of the following cases:

Recent surgery

Epilepsy

Pregnancy in the third trimester;

Serious heart conditions (e.g. pacemaker, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or recent heart attack)

In most other cases, the practice is considered safe.

We invite you to listen to your body, reduce the intensity if needed, or skip breath holds at any time.

Safety: Always practice seated or lying down. Never in water, never while driving.

What if a person with any of the contraindications?

It is perfectly fine for any participants who want to join a SOMA Breath workshop to do so even if they have any of the contra-indications mentioned above. They can still benefit by taking part in the rhythmic breathing sections, using visualization techniques, and by connecting with like-minded people!
